Bovine ephemeral fever (BEF) is an arthropod-borne virus (most likely mosquitoes) that affects cattle and buffaloes. It is characterized by a short fever, shivering, lameness, and muscle stiffness. A modified live vaccine for BEF prevention is available, and it gives long-lasting protection.
